In 2023, design trends will shift. You’ll see more photography, jewel tones coming to the forefront, and fonts with personality!

One of the most exciting things about the creative industry is that it is constantly evolving. Creative minds are not afraid to charter new territories and explore new ideas. Throughout 2022, we’ve explored the changing trends in design, logos, video marketing, and more. As 2022 comes to an end, we look forward to the new design trends we will see in 2023!

2023 Design Trends - BuzzShift - Photographic Branding

Trend #1: Photography over Illustration

While illustration has been at the forefront recently, photography is about to have its revival. Illustration will start to take a back seat in brand identity, making room for photography that brings in more humanity and tangibility. Lifestyle imagery that shows real, authentic people, gives the consumer a sense of belonging and helps them relate to the brand. Check out how this artist brought this dietary app to life using lifestyle photography.

2023 Design Trends - BuzzShift - Jewel Tones

Trend #2: Jewel Tones Come to the Forefront

Neons and neutrals will start to fade as rich jewel tones take their place. While bright and neutral tones still have their place, richer tones are starting to make a presence in everything from fashion to graphics. These striking colors lend themselves to a more elegant and indulgent feel while staying youthful and modern. Expect to see these colors make an appearance on websites as well as print material. This artist did a great job of combining a jewel tone, a neon, and a pastel create a very modern and inviting dental brand.

2023 Design Trends - BuzzShift - Distorted Type

Trend #3: Fonts Get Funky

Specific font designs are constantly going in and out of style. While more traditional fonts have been in the spotlight, they are starting to go through some alteration. Distorting typography gives them a quirky look. It brings more movement and distinct personality not only to the type itself but to the design as a whole. Typography as the focal point of the design will be a big design trend in 2023. This designer shows how they built out the whole font to incorporate the distorted look.
